A free Christian planning resource · North Village Church · Austin
Make room for what matters in this season of life.
You can stay busy all week and still wonder, “Am I giving my life to what matters most?”
Start with a few minutes of reflection. Notice the rhythms already shaping your life, name what you value, and choose one practical step for the week ahead.
No email required. Rooted in Scripture. Created by North Village Church.
Your calendar tells part of your story.
Work, family, unexpected needs, and the next notification can fill the day before you have decided what deserves your attention. Sometimes the urgent crowds out the important.
But a crowded calendar does not automatically mean your values are wrong. Caring for someone, paying the bills, or walking through a hard season may be an expression of what matters most. This is a chance to notice, pray, and consider what is possible in the season you actually have.
What matters to you—and what received your attention?
This short exercise draws from the booklet’s self-assessment and reflection questions. It is a reflection tool, not a psychological assessment. There is no score to earn.
A rhythm to practice this week
One week does not define your faithfulness. Bring what you noticed to Jesus, ask for wisdom, and practice this one step with the capacity you have.
Consider sharing your next step with a trusted friend. Ask each other next week: What did you notice? What needs to change?
A clearer direction starts with noticing.
Discovering Your Yearly Rhythms, by Michael J. Dennis and North Village Church, gives you space to work through five steps:
- Self-assessment: Notice where you are in the different areas of life.
- Reflection: Consider what needs attention in this season.
- Personal values: Name the convictions that will shape your decisions.
- Personal vision: Describe what living those values could look like.
- Practical application: Bring that vision into your schedule, relationships, and everyday choices.
The booklet also includes space for celebration, reminders of the gospel, and annual, weekly, and budget planning templates. Work through it a little at a time, with a friend, or as a family.

Grace belongs in your plan.
We believe our acceptance with God comes through Jesus, not a well-managed calendar. Planning is one way to care for what He has entrusted to us. It cannot control tomorrow, remove every difficulty, or earn His love.
You do not have to figure it out alone.
North Village Church is a church family in North Austin, centered on Jesus. We created this resource so people can reflect on their lives and encourage one another along the way. You are welcome to use it whether you are part of our church or simply exploring.
If you contact us, mention “Yearly Rhythms.” Please share personal details only if you want our team to receive them.
A few questions you might have
Is this only for January?
No. A new year is one opportunity to reflect. A new job, a change in family life, or an ordinary week can be a starting point too.
Do I have to be a Christian or attend NVC?
No. This is a Christian resource that uses Scripture and points to Jesus. You are welcome to explore it and bring your questions.
What if I already have more responsibilities than I can manage?
Start by naming the season you are in. Your next step might be to ask for support, make room for rest, or let go of something. The booklet invites reflection; it does not promise an effortless or perfectly balanced life.
Will I be added to an email list?
No. The exercise and booklet are available without an email address. Contacting us does not subscribe you to a new email series.
